Why coffee?

The #1 Consumed Beverage in America as of 2025 surpassing bottled water, tea and soft drinks

But that’s only part of the reason.

Sadly, when you overlay the map of the coffee belt of the world, it correlates well with a map of many of the areas in the world with the highest rates of trafficking. Many don’t realize this, and we don’t think it has to stay this way.

We want to be part of changing this map overlay, seeing that one day together, the world of coffee and the world of human trafficking will not fit well.

Together, we have a chance to see that future become more real for others, the people around the world who produce that great beverage we all love, COFFEE!

Our Strategy

Coffee Importing With a Life Giving Mission

The first thing we knew was the need to provide great, quality coffees, specifically Arabica
coffees wherever possible that rise to the level of being high quality, single origin coffees. They
taste so good that people love drinking them over and over again. So our constant goal is to
source quality coffees from various countries in the world.

That allows us to bring value to our producer partners by creating better markets for their coffees
when they become part of a diverse offering of coffees. That enables them to benefit as we
partner with coffee shops, roasters and individuals who want this diversity of great coffees
within one source; the repeat, long-term, satisfied buyers who will stay with us, and thus our
producer partners, year after year, a key to economic security.

The third part is to insure that our producer partner communities are matched to a social services
organization that will identify those at risk of being trafficked within those communities, offering
them real solutions for keeping their families intact and provided for in all the other ways needed
for life changing outcomes besides just economics.

Finally, to make this an ongoing improving effort, we reinvest a portion of our profits into the
infrastructure needs of, and as determined by our social services partners, so they can continue to
provide the needed support to the community they serve.

And you are the key partner, whether a roaster, coffee shop or individual direct consumer of our
coffee offerings. When you partner with us, together we change lives, allowing LIVINGFREE
lives for others!

How We Started

From seeing the need

Our founder, John Courtney (and his wife Lynn) served alongside each other for over two decades to help rescue trafficked people and prevent child trafficking. During their time in this work, they noticed two issues that led to people getting trapped; economic insecurity and hopes for better opportunities that leave people vulnerable to the lies of those that are willing to exploit them, the traffickers. It can be as simple as “we have a job for you or your child where good money can be made that can help the rest of your family." Once away from the family and community support, that can lead to labor or sex trafficking.

They learned that real prevention solutions required not just improved economics but the help of social service organizations that identify people and families at risk in communities, and offers them solutions so the family can stay intact. After a trip to Asia together seeing this solution in action within the world of coffee, our founder, John, and his friend, Bob McKimm, our co-founder, decided that instead of just understanding the solution, they wanted to build a coffee company that would bring these solutions throughout the world.

Using their combined decades of building and running businesses in diverse industries, and with the partnering of people like you, that’s exactly what they’re having the joy of doing!
